2 A sentence is a group of words that tells a complete thought. Ex: The puppy barked for his food.

5 Sentences and Fragments A group of words that does not tell a complete thought is a sentence fragment. Ex: The book about dogs.

6 Subjects and Predicates Every sentence has a subject and a predicate. The simple subject is the main word that tells the reader who or what the sentence is about. The simple predicate is the main word or words that tell what the subject does.

7 Ex: George likes to play football.
