3 Who is Ms. Jolley? 21 st year of teaching National Board Certified Teacher Master of Arts (M.A.) in American History and Government Born in Ft. Lauderdale, only child, moved to the area to live closer to my parents Love watching football, reading, traveling, going to the beach, and fishing, watching movies, and listening to alternative rock, classic rock, and reggae Lived and taught in Colombia and in Japan

4 Course Objectives:  Understand the growth of civilizations and cultures (early Middle Ages to the present)  Understand the interaction of civilizations through “diplomacy” and wars.  Understand the causes and effects of major events throughout history.  Improve your critical thinking skills

5 Student Expectations  Implement a strong work ethic.  Read, comprehend, and analyze text.  Write effectively.  Maintain regular attendance.

6 Student Expectations:  AVOID ABSENCES ON TEST DAYS or when major assignments are due.  Complete all reading and written assignments on time. Late HW will result in a ZERO and will negatively affect your grade.

7 Student Expectations  Spend the appropriate amount of time outside of class to complete assignments and readings.  Actively participate in class.  Understand the fast-paced nature of a rigorous curriculum.

8 Student Expectations  Demonstrate a positive attitude toward the class and the instructor.  Cooperation and collaboration in class without student disruptions.  Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated and is not conducive to our productive learning environment.

9 Student Expectations  Commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence.

13 My Classroom Rules:  Be respectful.  Be prepared.  Be prompt.  Be responsible for your actions.  Follow all rules in the Student Handbook.  Do not force me to write referrals!

14 My Classroom Rules:  Be prepared physically and mentally.  Leave the “drama” outside.  No fragrances or personal grooming in the classroom.  No food or beverages in the classroom (bottled water is allowed).  NO gum!

15 My Classroom Rules:  Backpacks/book bags/purses under seat/desk  Exercise academic integrity  Stay on task.  This is your job. Act accordingly!
