INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES Group: 10 Batch: TIS 76 Gaby Alexander Damini Mangaj Amritpreet Singh Arunavathi Suraj Medda

Introduction In computing, input/output or I/O is the communication between an information processing system, such as a computer, and the outside world, possibly a human or another information processing system. Inputs are the signals or data received by the system and outputs are the signals or data sent from it. The term can also be used as part of an action; to "perform I/O" is to perform an input or output operation.

Input Input is any data entered into the computer’s memory. Types of input include: Data – Unorganized information (words, numbers, images, or sounds) that the computer converts to meaningful information Programs – series of instruction that tell the computer what to do. Commands – Instructions that tell the computer what to do Responses – Prompts requiring user feedback

Output Some types of output are : Text Graphics Tactile Audio Video.

List of Input devices Input device captures information and translates it into a form that can be processed and used by other parts of your computer. * Keyboards * Pointing devices * Biometrics * Microphones * Cameras * Scanners

Keyboard In computing, a keyboard is a typewriter-style device, which uses an arrangement of buttons or keys.

Pointing devices A pointing device is an input interface (specifically a human interface device) that allows a user to input continuous and multi-dimensional data to a computer. Some of the pointing devices are : * Mouse * Joystick * Touchscreen * Stylus

Biometrics Biometrics refers to authentication techniques that rely on measurable physical characteristics that can be automatically checked. There are several types of biometric identification schemes: Face: the analysis of facial characteristics Fingerprint: the analysis of an individual's unique fingerprints Eyes : the analysis of the colored ring that surrounds the eye's pupil

Signature: the analysis of the way a person signs his name. Vein: the analysis of pattern of veins in the back if the hand and the wrist Voice: the analysis of the tone, pitch and frequency of a person's voice. Touch Pad TrackballTouch Screen Joystick

Microphones Microphones are used to input audio that converts sound into an electrical signal. Electromagnetic transducers facilitate the conversion of acoustic signals into electrical signals Three main types of microphones are: Desktop microphones Headsets Directional microphones

Cameras A camera is an optical instrument for recording images, which may be stored locally, transmitted to another location, or both. Resolution is measured in megapixels Higher the resolution, better the image quality, but the more expensive the camera

Scanner Scanner is a light sensitive device that helps you copy or capture images, photos, and artwork that exist on paper. Types of scanners include: Flatbed Portable A barcode scanner is an electronic device that can read and output printed barcodes to a computer. Like a flatbed scanner, it consists of a light source, a lens and a light sensor translating optical impulses into electrical ones

Output Devices An output device is any piece of computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by an information processing system (such as a computer) which converts the electronically generated information into human-readable form Main output devices: Monitors Printers Speakers Tactile

Monitors A monitor or a display is an electronic visual display for computers. The monitor comprises the display device, circuitry and an enclosure. The display device in modern monitors is typically a thin film transistor (TFT), liquid crystal display (LCD), while older monitors used a cathode ray tube (CRT)

Printers In computing, a printer is a peripheral which makes a persistent human readable representation of graphics or text on paper or similar physical media. The two most common printer mechanisms are black and white laser printers used for common documents, and color ink jet printers which can produce high quality photograph quality output.

Speakers A speaker is a device that produces computer output as sound Speakers are common devices in computer systems Examples include: Built-in speaker Two-device set speakers Surround sound speakers

Tactile Haptic technology, or haptics, is a tactile feedback technology which takes advantage of the sense of touch by applying forces, vibrations, or motions to the user.

Bios Acronym for basic input/output system, the built-in software that determines what a computer can do without accessing program from a disk. On PC's, the BIOS contains all the code required to control the keyboard, display screen, disk drives, serial communication, and a number of miscellaneous functions.

New technology Oculus Rift : The Rift is a virtual reality head-mounted display developed by Oculus. The Oculus Rift is a set of virtual-reality goggles that will work with your computer or mobile device that lets you to see a 3D world.
