There, Their, & They’re What’s the difference???

THERE This form of the word will mostly be used as an adjective. (we’ll learn those soon); however, it can also be used as a pronoun. It will be used to show placement or location.

EXAMPLES : My brother lives over there. We will go there soon. I saw a boy playing with his dog in the dog park. Can we go there? No one wants to go in there because they think the house is haunted.

THEIR This form is used as a plural possessive PRONOUN. This is used to show possession or ownership.

EXAMPLES : I’m not going to their house. Someone told me it’s haunted. Their football is deflated because the dog was chewing on it. Their dog is very playful.

THEY’RE This form is a contraction. A contraction is two words that are combined as one using an apostrophe. In this case They’re= THEY ARE. It is used as a plural PRONOUN.

EXAMPLES: They’re going to go into the house even though we told them it’s haunted. They’re going to have to buy a new football because this one is now ruined.

Speaking of Contractions… THERE’S Is a contraction meaning -- THERE IS This is still referring to POSITION/LOCATION Example: There’s the Eiffel Tower.
