2 2 | 3GPP2 M2M Update | February 2011 3GPP2 LS to TIA TR-50 3GPP2 M2M Activity M2M work has been divided into three categories:  3GPP2 SC Ad Hoc on M2M Numbering and Addressing  TSG-S M2M System Requirements  Joint activity: TSG-A, TSG-C, TSG-S and TSG-X  3GPP2 SC Ad Hoc on M2M Numbering and Addressing There is discussion around addressing (M2M devices will use MIN, IMSI or MEID or dynamic addressing) It was pointed out by some sources that by 2020, there will be approx 50B M2M Devices. This is inclusive of Cellular Networks and Utilities. Forward Looking: Use an address/identifier that could handle such numbers

3 3 | 3GPP2 M2M Update | February 2011 3GPP2 LS to TIA TR-50 3GPP2 M2M Activity  TSG-S M2M System Requirements  3GPP2 SC Ad Hoc on M2M Numbering and Addressing Discussion in TSG-S on M2M System Requirements have begun. We should have an approved skeleton/base document out of the May 2011 meeting. The group will review contribution on requirements and/or enhancements related to characteristics and use cases, for example, on:  Congestion,  Use of access overload classes in terms of priority,  Grouped based M2M features (i.e., addressing/paging a set of M2M devices).  Joint activity: TSG-A, TSG-C, TSG-S and TSG-X During each 3GPP2 face-to-face meeting, a joint session is held to discuss M2M work. We approved a skeleton document in March 2011. The goal is to have this as an End-to-End document which would include air interface, IOS and network components.
