2. Children’s Clothing
In Colonial Times Children wore many different things compared to what we wear today.
Girls wore stays over their shifts. They also wore light skirts called petticoats. Babies and young children wore light dresses.
Boys wore dresses too. At about age 6 boys were able to ditch dresses for knee length pants called breeches.

3. Women’s Clothing
Women in colonial days also wore light skirts called petticoats. Over the petticoats women wore a gown and apron.
Women’s gowns had long sleeves and skirts. Women also wore neck cloths and caps.
Wealthy women wore fancy hoop skirts. Hoop skirts made it impossible for women to sit down.

4. Men’s Clothing
Men in colonial days wore many different things. All men wore breeches. But a farmer would wear a sleeveless vest and jacket.
The wealthy wore wigs. Wigs were heavy, hot, and expensive. They were made of human, horse, or goat hair .

5. Men’s Shoes
In colonial times men’s wives made all of their clothing. Even shoes!
Men’s shoes were black with a gold square that keeps it tight on the top. They kind of look like the shoes boys wear to catholic schools today.
If the men were wealthy they would buy there shoes from a shoemaker.

6. Women’s Shoes
Women made their own shoes. They were black with a lace on top that you tie. The shoes have a heel.
The wealthy wore fancy shoes they bought from the shoemaker.
Women that weren’t wealthy made all of their clothes.
