1 Kentucky Derby Day May 3, 2008 The Grounds of Liberty State Park Every year, since 1875, on the first Saturday in May hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world gather in Louisville, Kentucky to witness the “greatest two minutes in sports!” In the South, the Kentucky Derby is not just a horse race; the presentation of pageantry that takes place on this day is warranted by no other sporting event in the world. On Saturday, May 3, 2008 your American Cancer Society will bring this memorable celebration closer to home in an effort to emphasize the ‘fun’ in fundraising. We are inviting distinguished guests throughout Hudson County to join us for a day filled with great food, charitable betting, valuable prizes and best of all, southern hospitality. 2 Relay For Life of Hoboken May 17, 2008 Pier A Park Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature overnight activity. This event celebrates the lives of cancer survivors, remembers those who have lost their battle, and gives a community an opportunity to fight cancer and raise funds collectively. Relay For Life takes place in many communities throughout the Spring and Summer across Essex, Hudson and Union counties. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Relay For Life brings together millions of people from all walks of life- friends, family, coworkers, caregivers- all with the common goal of eliminating cancer. Relay For Life represents the hope that those lives lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.
