Doc: IEEE 802.15-14-0398-00-0008 Submission 5.13 Power control NICT-NICTA –The power control mechanism is a refinement of distributed discrete SINR balancing, by incorporating game-theoretic utility maximization, in order to obtain Pareto optimal outcomes. –It rapidly converges to acceptable packet delivery ratio (PDR) for high priority communications, faster than conventional power control techniques –Moreover, the proposal reduces power consumption across all sources, significantly, compared to conventional power control techniques –The interaction with higher layers is to choose priority target PDR. July 2014 Smith, Sawyer, Zhou (NICTA), Hernandez,Li,Dotlić,Miura (NICT) Slide 2

Doc: IEEE 802.15-14-0398-00-0008 Submission 5.13 Power control NICT-NICTA –The proposed power control method shown to be applicable in slow fading channels, where direct channel gains vary between stages of power control. –Also, the proposed power control can be applied asynchronously as all sources (relays) do not need to transmit concurrently –Simulations based on single-hop communications, and multi-hop communication with decode-and-forward or detect-and-forward July 2014 Smith, Sawyer, Zhou (NICTA), Hernandez,Li,Dotlić,Miura (NICT) Slide 3

Doc: IEEE 802.15-14-0398-00-0008 Submission 5.13 Power control Interdigital –Context aware power control. July 2014 Smith, Sawyer, Zhou (NICTA), Hernandez,Li,Dotlić,Miura (NICT) Slide 4

Doc: IEEE 802.15-14-0398-00-0008 Submission 5.13 Power control Interdigital –Power Control (PC) function calculates the initial Tx power level based on the CPCI values passed from higher layer and/or detected in proximity. –Broadcast at Common channel at the initial power level, and wait for the response(s) form the PD(s) in proximity. –Adjust the Tx power level based on the response(s) from PD(s). –Overhead of PC grows unbounded when the network scales. –Method for feedback of power control information is not defined. July 2014 Smith, Sawyer, Zhou (NICTA), Hernandez,Li,Dotlić,Miura (NICT) Slide 5

Doc: IEEE 802.15-14-0398-00-0008 Submission 5.13 Power control Harmonization –There are some similarities, like QoS based power control. – NICT-NICTA proposal does not have the overhead of PC exchange. Moreover, it does take into account hidden PDs (with communication link either discovered or not). –Interdigital proposal does not present performance results, such as packet error rates (or packet delivery ratios) during power control. We need more information about it. July 2014 Smith, Sawyer, Zhou (NICTA), Hernandez,Li,Dotlić,Miura (NICT) Slide 6

Doc: IEEE 802.15-14-0398-00-0008 Submission 5.13 Power control Harmonization 1 –Even NICT proposal is at the PHY level and Inter-Digital’s is at the MAC level, both proposals are not complementary. –A potential solution is to have NICTA-NICT proposal as mandatory and Inter-Digital’s as optional. July 2014 Smith, Sawyer, Zhou (NICTA), Hernandez,Li,Dotlić,Miura (NICT) Slide 7

Doc: IEEE 802.15-14-0398-00-0008 Submission 5.13 Power control Harmonization 2 –By accepting a frame structure with contention-free period (CFP) and contention-access period (CAP): During the CFP, power control is NICT-NICTA’s proposal. During the CAP, power control is Interdigital’s proposal. July 2014 Smith, Sawyer, Zhou (NICTA), Hernandez,Li,Dotlić,Miura (NICT) Slide 8

Doc: IEEE 802.15-14-0398-00-0008 Submission 5.13 Power control Harmonization 3 –Somewhat to combine both proposals by taking context aware info (Interdigital) as initial conditions for distributed power control (NICTA-NICT) instead of closed-loop power control. July 2014 Smith, Sawyer, Zhou (NICTA), Hernandez,Li,Dotlić,Miura (NICT) Slide 9
