ME 150 Engineering Drawing 1 Lab 2: 2D Sketch (1) 1 Umm Al-Qura University College of Engineering & Islamic Architecture Mechanical Engineering Department

Lab Objectives Parametric solid modeling – Parametric association – Understanding constrains Modify sketch Exercises 2 Umm Al-Qura University College of Engineering & Islamic Architecture Mechanical Engineering Department

Parametric solid modeling Inventor works on the concept of parametric solid modeling. Parameters can be adjusted to make changes to the model, but if the modifications conflict with other geometries, the model cannot be built without errors. 3 Umm Al-Qura University College of Engineering & Islamic Architecture Mechanical Engineering Department

Parametric association 4 Inventor creates a shape parametrically. For example, the parameter (diameter) needs to be specified for drawing a circle as illustrated below. Parametric modeling allows you to control every aspect of a model and drawing during and after the design and documentation process. 5 Understanding Constrains Constraints are added in the form of dimensions and geometric associations. The use of well-defined constraints preserves specific design intentions, even as revisions are made. Constrains can be in a form of: Dimension Coincide Collinear Concentric Parallel or perpendicular Horizontal of vertical Tangent 5 Umm Al-Qura University College of Engineering & Islamic Architecture Mechanical Engineering Department

Over constrain Invertor will not allow contradicted constrains. An error massage will appear if over constrain was detected. For example, two lines can’t be parallel and perpendicular simultaneously. 6 Umm Al-Qura University College of Engineering & Islamic Architecture Mechanical Engineering Department

Modifying sketch A good technique used for sketching is to sketch roughly then modify the sketch using modification tools and constraints or combining sketches. Modifications are such as: Move Trim Split Rotate Stretch 7 Umm Al-Qura University College of Engineering & Islamic Architecture Mechanical Engineering Department
