Alexis Herman Born on July 16 th, 1947 in mobile Alabama She went to Edgewood College but she got her Sociology degree from Xavier University of Louisiana First job was as a social worker for Catholic Charities At age 29, she became the youngest person to become Director of the Labor Department’s Women’s Bureau She became U.S Secretary of Labor from 1997-2001

Virginia Insley (1912-2003) Best known for her work in pushing high standards in social work education and practice in maternal and child health programs Graduate of University of Washington, Seattle Mrs. Insley was honored by University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health for her work in social work field

Dr. Elizabeth Law Watkins She got her degree from Case Western Reserve University Her work centered on making high quality health services available for minority women and children Dr. Watkins was the first nonmedical doctor to be the President of the Association of Teachers of Maternal and Child Health
