1 Culture & Climate Survey Introduction: 2013-14 * Our students have taken the Culture Climate survey for the past 5 years. o Results are shared with GHS faculty, the school board, & Department of Education. o Today, we are sharing the some past results and are asking for your input on how to improve because...

2 We want to make Grinnell High School the best it can be (for students)!

3 Positive Results (from 2012-13) o 86.2%of students are happy with the academic opportunities GHS is providing them. o 70.8%of students said that teachers let them know if they’ve done a good job done a good job o 80.4%of students feel that if they are confused about some- thing in class they can ask for help thing in class they can ask for help o 72.9%of students like their school and think the overall feeling at school is positive at school is positive o 86.3%of students feel that they belong at GHS and that the teachers here know them teachers here know them o 74.4%of students think that teachers respect differences in students students o 76.2%of students care about THEIR school. o 84.0% of students feel safe at GHS

4 Concerns (from 2012-13) o 41.5%of students said that if they see someone getting verbally hurt they do something about it hurt they do something about it o 49.3%of students thought that students showed respect to their teachers teachers o 45.7%of students thought that students showed respect to each other other o 32.9%of students have been verbally hurt by another student at school school o 13.1%of students feel there are areas of the school where they do not feel safe do not feel safe o 21.1% of students said that they didn’t have an adult in the building they could trust if they needed to talk building they could trust if they needed to talk o 70.4% of students said there are groups in school that exclude others others o 44.7% said that teachers & administrators enforce the rules

5 What can you do? Answer the questions on the survey honestly If there are areas that you think are a concern, PLEASE write a comment in the box under the section. Be specific – either with the concern or your idea for improvement
