1 Unit 9E and 9F Lesson 11: Reactivity Series Part 2
Objective:to learn the order of reactivity for different metals. To learn how displacement reactions are useful in producing certain pure metals. Target 16, 17, and 18

2 Reactivity Series Because some metals are more reactive than others we can put them in order of reactivity. You will need to memorize this order so you will have to copy it into your books. Once you have made your reactivity series make a mnemonic so that you can remember it. Reactivity Series

3 Displacement Reactions
Because some metals are more reactive than others they will displace others from their compounds. For example see the bottom left hand corner of page 28. Displacement Reaction Practice

4 The Alkali Metals The alkali metals are found in the first column in the periodic table. They are lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium, and francium. The higher up in the column they are found the more reactive they are. Alkali metals are all highly reactive with air and water and have to be stored in oil. Periodic Table

5 Work to Do Observe reactions of alkali metals with water.
Read pages 28-29 Read figure 5 page 31 to learn what a thermit is. Complete questions 3-11 page 29 Homework: Activity Sheet 2.7 Keywords lithium, potassium, reactivity, sodium, thermit
