Make a loan, change a life

Marcelline is from Benin in West Africa. She sells vegetables from her market stall so she can pay to send her children to school

Bapak Asep is from Indonesia in Asia. He makes and sells dumplings. He hopes that one day his son can study at the school where he sells his dumplings.

Leonor Zhingre is a maize farmer from Ecuador in South America. She borrowed money to make her farm bigger, and to save money for the future.

La Morm is from Cambodia in Asia. She is a tailor. She borrowed money to buy a new sewing machine so she could grow her business and employ someone to help her.

This is Rasheeda, she lives in Pakistan with her husband and five children. Rasheeda can make beautiful clothes. However, she needs help to grow her business. Because Rasheeda is poor, most banks will not help her. Without help her business might fail and she will struggle to find enough money to support her children. What is the problem?

There are millions of people in the world like Rasheeda. Because they are poor, banks do not want to help them. This means they cannot borrow money, or have any savings. What is the problem?

1.Rasheeda has an idea Every business starts with an idea. An entrepreneur like Rasheeda wants their business to grow bigger. They go to a local microfinance institution (MFI) to tell them their idea for the business. MFIs are a bit like banks. But they work with people who big banks don’t want to, people like Rasheeda. A business plan could be anything - from dressmaking, to growing a small farm. What is Lendwithcare?

2. The microfinance institution (MFI) lends money to Rasheeda If the MFI thinks the business is a good idea, they will lend money to the entrepreneur. They also help put their information on the Lendwithcare website. An MFI in Pakistan reading about a business Women in Malawi sharing their loan money

3. You meet the entrepreneur on lendwithcare.org

4. You lend your money You choose which entrepreneur you want to help. You then lend them money to help with their business. You can lend anything from £15 to the full amount.

5.

6. The entrepreneur repays your money The person you chose pays back the money they borrowed to the MFI. Then the money you lent is repaid to you on the Lendwithcare website. Normally you get back all your money on time. Sometimes, if the entrepreneur has problems with their business, they will need more time to repay the money, and you might have to wait longer. VERY occasionally, they might have such big problems that they can’t repay you, and you might not get back your money.

8. You choose what to do next When you receive back your money, you choose what happens next: 1.You can withdraw your money. 2.You can donate it to CARE International 3.Or you can do what most lenders do and lend the money to someone else. This will help even more people with their business ideas, and give them a better future.
