Welcome to World History September 14 - 15, 2015 Today you will be working on a study technique, as well as, learning information on the Muslim World between 1300-1700.

SQ3R Survey Question Read Recite Review

Survey Survey means to look things over. – Title of Chapter and subsections – Maps and photographs – Highlighted terms in bold print – Read crack questions Should take less than 1 minute per page.

Question Using the subheadings (Red and Black) create questions that will give you a purpose to read. Use Who, What, How, and Why Examples: Why did the Turks move into Byzantium? How did Osman establish a State? Who was Timur the Lame and how did he halt expansion? >Leave some space between questions for your answers. >Should take no longer than 1 minute per question.

Read Seems simple enough….. But you are reading now with the questions in mind. It gives you a purpose. Reading will take you longer than the Survey or the Questions, but not too long as you now have a purpose and will know what you are looking for. Should take you no longer than five minutes per page in our World History Textbook.

Recite Recite simply means to answer the questions. Take your time to answer the questions you designed in step 2. You may use a bulleted format or phrases. These are notes, not a polished final paper. You must include the vocabulary terms in your answers. Should take you about two to three minutes per question maximum

Review This is the study part of the technique. Cover the answer and see if you can answer the question without looking at your answers. Cover the question and see if you can state the question. Be certain to have a highlighter in hand when doing the review to highlight any key vocabulary words in your answers.
