3. WHAT IS IDLING? Idling is when something or someone is not operating or not moving. Here, we are talking about cars that are turned on with their engines running but they are not moving anywhere – they are just parked.

6. CARS POLLUTE  Try not to use your car as much  Take public transit (bus, subway, streetcar)  Walk  Carpool  Don’t idle your car

7. IDLING CARS  Make the air dirty (pollution)  Waste $$$$  Waste gas  Hurt car engines

8. IDLING MAKES US SICK  Kids breathe faster than adults so they breathe more dirty air  Breathing polluted air gives us asthma, lung problems, allergies, and sometimes cancer  Small children walk right by the car exhaust pipes where the dirty air comes from

10. WHY DO PEOPLE IDLE?  Warming up their cars  Waiting for someone  Running a quick errand  Comfort (air conditioning, heater, radio)  Parking illegally  HOW CAN WE STOP THIS?

11. WE CAN HELP!  Ask our parents to walk us to school or start a “walking school bus” program  Tell people to not idle their cars  Wear an extra sweater so the bus driver doesn’t need to keep the heater running  Let drivers know idling hurts their engines

REMOTE STARTERS:  Are little gadgets that will turn on your car engine when you press the button.  Can be used while YOU are still in your house and your CAR is out on the street.  Are terrible for the planet because people press the button and forget that their car is running and it ends up polluting for a long, long, long time!

13. STOP IDLING!  Make our air clean  Help us stay healthy  Don’t waste $$$ or gas  Save our planet
