2 Before you begin; let’s consider the process Step One Prewriting: Select a topic and details. Be sure it is specific to assignment. Collect information; brainstorm. Try different ways to brainstorm: list, web, map, freewrite.

3 What you need! Step Two Writing: Create the first draft The topic sentence tells the reader what the paragraph is about. The body consists of details that support the main topic. The clincher comes after the details and reminds readers of the topic or summarizes.

4 Now let’s check! Step Three Revising means you read and improve what you wrote. Add information Move sentences around Check for transitions. Rewrite when you need.

5 Time to fix it! Step Four Editing means you check your mechanics and usage and make corrections. Check the revised copy. Write a final copy.

6 You are finished! Step Five Publishing: Let others read your work. Use author’s chair, a bulletin board, a newspaper. Share with your class.
