Our desktop looks similar to what we see here normally. The pictures on the left are called icons. On the next few slides, we’ll play around with the icons.

Ack! It looks like Mario got away from the other icons! Let’s use our mouse to put him back.

Well, now it looks like they have all moved! Can you put them back in the same position that they were in on the 1 st slide?

Well, now it looks like they have marched over to us in a line. Instead of moving them back one at a time, let’s “left click and drag” to select all of the icons together.

Why don’t they just stay put? This time, let’s move just the Word and Chrome icons into their homes. We’ll use the Ctrl button to help us move both icons at the same time. If you do it right, the Word icon will be on blue and the Chrome icon will be on purple. Afterwards, use the “Ctrl + Left click” to move Mario and Powerpoint at the same time. Mario should end up on the red square, and Powerpoint should end up on the yellow square.

Our icons disappeared for a moment. They were tired of being pushed around. Don’t worry, they’ll get over it. Let’s practice our right clicking. Each shape on the left can be a different color. Move your mouse to the blue shape. Use the right button on your mouse to “right click” the shape. Look at all the different things you can do! This is called the “right click menu”. A menu offers us options that will affect the item we are working with. Let’s right click the blue shape, and turn the “Fill” to red, like below.

You know, I think we’ve got too many shapes. Let’s use our right-click menu to delete the purple and red boxes. Double check: did you delete all of boxes I asked you to delete?

Oops. Actually, I think we need a couple more boxes now. How can I make a sequence chain without a few more boxes? Let’s use our right click to “copy” the blue box. Move your mouse cursor right below the box. Let’s right click again underneath our original blue box. We’ll tell the computer to “paste” this time. Our paste icon looks like a clipboard with a piece of paper and the letter “a”. Let’s do the same thing for the yellow box. Hint: If we can’t go under, maybe we should go _____?

Hey, looks like we’ve got our 4 shapes back. Let’s make the 2 nd one turn red. Let’s make the third one turn purple. Then, we can put our sequence words in order: First Next Then Finally Use your left click skills to move the words into the order on top of the boxes. The Then Next First Finally

This page looks pretty empty. First, READ ALL the directions on this page. Next, I think we should go back to the first slide, “left click and drag” to select the 4 icons. Then, we should right click on one of the icons and select “copy”. After we right click and select “copy”, let’s come back to this page. Finally, let’s use our mouse to right click, and then “paste”. We should have all of our icons back!
