Grace Fellowship Church Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard www.GraceDoctrine.org Tuesday, October 16, 2012

Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.— Amen.

The Book of Proverbs Chapter 3 Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your Heart, Pt. 10

III. Faith Resting in God is Developed through Different Kinds of Trust.

A. Compliant Trust B. Confident Trust C. Courageous Trust D. Conquered, Conceding or Surrendered Trust.

E. Cultivated or Learned Trust. Faith gained by past experiences and prior study of God’s Word.

Cultivate, “to improve or prepare by plowing or fertilizing; to till; to promote the growth of something; and to nurture, foster, form or refine, as by education.”

Psa 37:3, “Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.”

Heb 6:7, “For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God.”

For example: The faith cultivated in David’s heart with the lion and bear gave him great confidence and courage when he faced Goliath. 1 Sam 17:37, 46-47

As a result of your faith it cultivates Faith-Rest in the lives of all who witness it or hear about it.

God has been working in your life to cultivate your very own Faith-Rest, giving you His Word with examples, Heb 11, and placing you in various situations so that your faith can be nurtured and developed.

2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” Cf. 1 Peter 1:7-8

F. Committed Trust

Committed means, “to do or perform something that you set out to do; to place something in trust, entrust; to consign for future use or reference or for preservation, i.e., commit to memory.”

We take our “cultivated” trust and parlay it into “committed” trust.

For example: Dan 1:8, “But Daniel made up his mind (determined in his heart) that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank.”

We must utilize the norms and standards of our soul to be faithful towards God’s Word, rather than follow the crowd.

Faith-Resting obedience to the Word of God is more important to you than your own life or your advancement in this life.

Having faith that the Lord will take care of you and protect you.

It is doing what is right, never giving in to the pressures, temptation or trials of life, with an overcoming perseverance to deal triumphantly with any- thing that life throws at you.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, also had a “committed” trust in the Lord even though confronted with death, Daniel 3:16-18, 28.

Daniel later displays “committed” faith in God when thrown into the lions den where he was fully protected. Dan 6:4, 10-11, 13, 16, 22, 26-27.

When you have a life demonstrating faith-rest it is a tremendous witness to others that will cause them to come to faith-rest too.

You do not permit adverse circumstances to get you to surrender or quit on the plan of God. Mat 13:18-23; Mark 4:1-25; Luke 8:4-15.

It is a steady persistence in a course of action having a triumphant confident expectation of reward and blessing in the midst of adversity.
