Grace Fellowship Church Pastor/Teacher - Jim Rickard www.GraceDoctrine.org Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Prov 28:13, “He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.”

Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.— Amen.

Prov 3:5, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

Thanksgiving Special!

The Hebrew for “thanksgiving” TODAH, תּוֹדָה.

“Words of thanks to God, a ritual act of thanksgiving, a religious song of thanksgiving, a Levitical choir, or a verbal confession of sin.”

There is a close relationship between confession of sin and thanksgiving that results in our close relationship with the Lord when we perform them.

“When sin is acknowledged, the worshiper gives honor to God and prepares the way for God’s display of salvation, Psa 50:23.” (Complete Biblical Library – Hebrew/English Dictionary)

Psa 50:23, “He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me; and to him who orders his way aright I shall show the salvation of God.”

The TODAH, was one of the “fellowship offerings” of Lev 7:12-15 and 22:29. See also 2 Chron 29:31; 33:16; Psa 50:14, 107:22; 116:17.

God was not always pleased with a praise of thanksgiving because it could be offered by a sinful hypocrite who wanted to practice religion without rebounding and walking in righteousness.

Amos 4:5, “Offer a thank offering also from that which is leavened, and proclaim freewill offerings, make them known. For so you love to do, you sons of Israel,” Declares the Lord GOD.”

Prov 28:13-14, “He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses (YADAH) and forsakes them will find compassion. How blessed is the man who fears always, but he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.”

Thanksgiving in the Book of Psalms!

Psa 26:7

Psa 26:7 To rightly give thanks to God we must separate, (mentally or physically), from sin and the influence of Satan’s cosmic system…

… which begins with the confession of our sins, vs. 6 and then we can walk in the “truth”, i.e., PMA of Bible Doctrine, vs. 3.

Psa 42:4

Psa 42:4 “Remembrance” here is a longing for God and His Word.

We are not to only express our thanksgiving to God by ourselves, but we should do it together and in unity.

We are to be leaders of others in the singing of thanks.

Psa 50:14

Psa 50:14 Our offerings are not just our treasures, but include our time, talent and truth that are a sacrifice unto God.

Psa 50:23

Psa 50:23 When we put aside time in our day to give thanks to God it is our expression of glorification to Him.

“Salvation”, He will deliver us from the details and difficulties of life each and every day.

It is not the words that come out of your mouth that honors and glorifies God, but what is truly inside the heart of your soul.

Psa 69:30

Psa 69:30 Even though we are going through some difficulty in life, vs. 29, in faith-rest we can still give praise and thanks to God.

Thankful voices sound sweeter to God’s ear than any sacrifice would smell in His nostrils.

Psa 95:2

Psa 95:2 Jesus Christ is the rock of our salvation who purchased our sins upon the Cross. Through Him alone man receives salvation for eternal life. For that we give thanks!

This gives us encouragement and motivation to walk daily in Faith Rest, trusting in the Lord and His Word in all that we do; clinging to the Rock of our Salvation.
