Fieldwork Take temperature of locations at both 1.5 meters and 15 centimeters Pocket Weather Instrument to collect temperature Fieldwork repeated, 28/1:11.15am & 4/2:11.20am, 2014 Data organized into a compound bar graph

Hypothesis The lower to the ground, the higher the temperature Temperatures taken at 1.5 meters is lower than the temperature taken at 15 centimeters, at the same location

Locations A – Top Floor of Multi-Storey Carpark B – Garden Outside Printing Centre C – Open Space Between Canteen & Block C D - Terraces E - Field F - Running Track G – Fountain Area Outside General Office

Data Unusual data - Difference in temperature varies from 2.4-0.1 degrees Celsius - Difference in temperature varies from 2.4-0.1 degrees CelsiusExplanation - Shaded areas block out sunlight from reaching the ground, hence the ground absorbs less radiation, and the difference in temperature decreases

Challenges When taking the temperature, the thermometer’s temperature kept fluctuating so after taking the temperature it would continue rising Hence, we took the highest temperature over a period of 30 seconds

Prior Knowledge Many different factors affect temperature such as the amount of shade wind Temperature is best taken by a thermometer in a Stevenson’s screen Ground absorbs radiation from the sun, and is hotter than air

Things to Google! Is the decrease in temperature predictable as the altitude increases? Why is the temperature different at different timings and locations?

Thank You
