The Magical Mystery Tour By: Hannah Hausman 1 st period

Location The absolute location of my city is 0° latitude and 73°E longitude. The relative location of my place is south of India, on the Equator and in the Indian Ocean.

Place My place was established by a prince from India who had been exiled by his own father somewhere between 543 and 483 B.C. My secret place is the smallest capital city in the world.

Place continued… To raise awareness about the rising ocean levels and other environmental threats, President Mohamed Nasheed moved a cabinet meeting in 2009 to the bottom of the ocean. My mystery city is famous for having an underwater hotel in which you can watch a wide variety of marine life around you from anywhere in the hotel, including your room.

Region If you go on a whale-watching tour in this region, you’re guaranteed to see anywhere from 1,500-2,500 whales and dolphins in a single trip. Originally a Buddhist nation, this region became strictly Muslim in 1153 A.D. with citizens being required by law to be Sunni Muslim.

Region continued… People in this region believe in both white (good) and black (bad) magic, with the coconut being a symbol of black magic. This region contains 1,199 coral islands, of which 202 are inhabited, and 87 are exclusive resort islands. None of the islands rise six feet above sea level, so the islands are constantly at risk of going under water with rising sea levels.

Movement People first started traveling to this place as part of the trade routes from China to Europe in ancient times. Due to its proximity to Africa, the dance and music styles are of African origin and influence. The currency in my mystery place are the Rufiyaa and Laaree. Early migrants in my place were from Arabia, eastern Africa and India, but today are a mixed race.

Human-Environment Interaction One of the most popular tourist attractions in my place is shark diving, where a wide variety of sharks can be seen by scuba divers, including whale sharks. Surfing is a popular sport in this region. Another tourist favorite is night fishing in crystal blue waters. Other ways tourists enjoy the great outdoors is through windsurfing, bodysurfing, knee boarding, water skiing, and parasailing.

Any last guesses?!?

And the winner is… The Maldives!
