1 PARENT COMMUNITY LIAISON MEETINNG 2015-2016 “IT TAKES EVERYBODY TO BE #1”

2 *INTRODUCTIONS*

3 ROLES OF PARENT COMMUNITY LIAISON Coordinate Parent Activities during and after school. Coordinate volunteer program at the school. Train and schedule volunteers to work at the school. Work with yearbook coordinator to schedule pictures and put together school yearbook. Attend all monthly county parent community liaison training sessions held at a location by the Title I Liaison Coordinator (Tony Conn ). These meetings can count toward the (6) six hours per week for the week the meetings are scheduled. Act as a liaison between school and parents. Help to create all School monthly calendar of events and at least 3 Seasonal newsletters for the school. Help with Library and Technology within the school. Be familiar with the Title I Website and Parent Involvement section.

4 ROLES OF PARENT COMMUNITY LIAISON Work 1 day per week in the school to schedule activities and coordinate events (Minimum of 6 hours per week). Agree to hold, coordinate, or assist at least 6 parent training sessions at the school during the 2015-2016 school year. You must also have prior approval by the building principal for these dates. 3 workshops are to be held first semester and 3 workshops second semester. Work with Teachers to staff as read aloud volunteers. Coordinate 2 book fairs or 2 book events. Obtain a State Police background check for all volunteers before working with staff or students. https://apps.wv.gov/StatePolice/SexOffenderhttps://apps.wv.gov/StatePolice/SexOffender Maintain confidentiality with all school business, staff, and students. Coordinate any other activities, concerns, or issues designated by the principal. Help to maintain school bulletin boards and other pertinent school information.

5 EXPECTATIONS OF PARENT COMMUNITY LIAISON Always keep a positive and polite attitude towards administration, staff, students, and volunteers. Always be confidential with any school related information. Maintain a professional work ethic. Dress Appropriately for the school environment. Respect others property in the school setting. Be flexible and willing to help with any given situation within reason. Set up a system to ensure teachers have input with ways in which they will need assistance in the classroom and with classroom tasks. Complete all job requirement within a timely fashion and have a completed and compliant parent community liaison notebook.

6 EXPECTATIONS OF PARENT COMMUNITY LIAISON Take random pictures of staff and students to highlight positive educational values of the school for newspapers, yearbook, special events, etc. *DO NOT TAKE ANY PICTURES WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM PRINCIPAL* Ensure Reading and Math as two vital skills to grasp at all ages. Do not be alone with children for any reason. Become active in your school’s LSIC Program to ensure school success. Help coordinator school’s “Back To School Bash”. Be close friends with the Title I Teachers of school as they must assist you with parent meetings, newsletters, and monthly calendars. Provide Title I teacher with your parent community liaison notebook as they must copy all parent info for their documentation in Title I.

7 COMMUNICATION Always be very confidential with any conversation you have within the school environment. Always greet people and answer the phone with the utmost respect and courtesy while helping at the school. “Hello, This is ____________ School, my name is Tony Conn/Parent Community Liaison. How may I help you?” Always dress appropriate and professional during the school day. Always lend a helping hand each and every school day. Remember to always keep a positive and pleasant mood with a big smile.

8 TITLE I PARENT COMMUNITY LIAISON MEETINGS We will have one parent meeting per month. (Total of 8) These are Mandatory Meetings. The meeting will be relevant information for your job. The meeting will focus on the most current issues at hand. The meeting will have question and answer session at the end to ensure structure and understanding of material. Please give input of relevant material and topics to be discussed at the meetings. We may have special speakers at some of the meetings. Please share comments and ideas with other parents to ensure success for all coordinators.

9 TITLE I PARENT COMMUNITY LIAISON MEETINGS Please be prepared and bring pen and paper or ipad to the sessions to take informational notes. Please bring at least one example of an educational technique, strategy, or parent workshop topic to share with the group monthly. During question and answer session of the meeting, we can discuss relevant information and ask questions pertaining to the discussions of the day during this time. If you have a concern or issue, then please save comments until after the meeting and talk with Mrs. Sherri Brewer – Title I Director or Mr. Tony Dale Conn – Title I Coordinator privately or schedule a meeting with us for a later time. This process will ensure confidentiality for each school and we can provide advice and council of how to address the concern in a professional manner. Any information discussed in the meeting is to remain confidential to the Parent Coordinator Personnel Only.
