YAM Awareness & Community Support YAM awareness was shared through:  the kaea.com website  the association’s Facebook page  the association’s blog  emails to members Event Participation:  138 teachers participated by submitting student artwork for the YAM event.  55 of these entries were from KAEA members. Kansas has a total of 280 KAEA members.

3. Harry Hart Scholarship presentation: The Kansas Art Education Association gives TWO $500.00 scholarships each year during the YAM celebration. This year's scholarship winners were: YAM Awareness & Community Support Miranda Pratt from Lawrence High School, student of Wendy Vertacnik. Madeline Smith of Washburn Rural High School, student of Bradley LeDuc.

4. Students of KAEA members are able to enter their designs for the YAM flag contest. This year, 85 students submitted a design. This year’s winner was Meredith Basham from Olathe, Ks- teacher Megan Wendleton. Her design was made into a flag representing Kansas at various events including the NAEA convention! 14. Three schools (Hutchinson, Oxford, and Wellsville) from across Kansas met today at the Kansas Capitol in Topeka to complete a CD weaving installation sculpture. The students worked from 9:00a until 11:30a tying the individual weavings together into a large tapestry. There were nearly 600 weavings between all of the participating schools (those unattended were Pittsburg State University, Troy, and Osawatomie). The weavings will be in the capitol until Saturday, March 7 th for the celebration of Youth Art Month. Observances, Exhibits, & Events
