2 Our Question: If Communism is known as universally bad in the United States and the Western World, then how has Communism survived in Vietnam and other countries?

3 What is Vietnam/ other countries view on Communism is a theory of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state. Everyone would be treated as an equal. Sounds great doesn’t it?

4

5 United States/ Western World View on Communism:
Communism is a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.

6 Early History of Communism:
Communism was an idea that was developed by Karl Marx and Valdmir Lenin in the early 1900’s. He wanted there to be a classless, equal society, and the world would be a perfect place. In essence called a utopian society. On the other hand Valdmir Lenin hoped to have a one party system called the Vausuard Party, that would act in a way that the people wanted. Acting as a democracy.

7 continued… Back when Communism became big and seemed to be the ideal form of government the US worried about trying to contain the spread of Communism. China greatly influenced the USSR and Vietnam, so they used the Communist form of government. Vietnam and China still have Communist government to this day.

8 Why is Communism considered universally bad?
Americans consider Communism universally bad because we do not live in a perfect world. Communism is suppose to be all about equality, but people are always striving to be better than one another. Hence, this system of government would never strive in the U.S. or in the Western World. We have a democratic government which many Americans enjoy, because they have a part in the government by voting.

10 Why has Communism survived in Vietnam?
Communism has still survived in Vietnam as a form of government but not an economic system. Vietnam has moved on to more of a capitalist approach, because if they had not there would be no urgency to produce goods and the population would therefore starve. Communism most likely has survived in Vietnam so it can stay “united” and so government still has full control.

12 Why has Communism survived in other countries?
Current Communist countries: China, Cuba, Laos, and North Korea. Many of these countries keep this style of life just for the main fact that the people believe that they are still united as one. Government leaders will never want to get rid of this form of government because they have complete control over the people.
