2 A parade down the Champs Elysées Aviation of the Patrouille de France fly above the parade for spectators to see Bastille Day celebrates the Storming of The Bastille (July 14, 1789) which was a fortress and a prison in France where prisoners of influence were held, in hopes of capturing ammunition One tradition is a an enormous and colorful military parade that marches down the Champs Elysees on the morning of July 14 Fireworks are displayed at the Eiffel Tower The Bal du 14 juillet is a giant dance party, traditionally held on the place where The Bastille once stood. It is held on July 13.

4 Bastille Day was declared a French national holiday on July 6, 1880. Benjamin Raspail proposed a law to have "the Republic choose the 14 July as a yearly national holiday“ Benjamin Raspail Later the senate approved and July 14 became the date for the celebration of Bastille day

5 In 1383 the building was finished The storming of The Bastille took place on July 14, 1789 November 1789 The Bastille was demolished During the 17 th century The Bastille became a prison The former location of the fort is currently called the Place de la Bastille which is home to the Opera Bastille.
