Please CLOSE YOUR LAPTOPS, and turn off and put away your cell phones, and get out your note-taking materials.

Review for Test 3

REMINDER: If at any time you are unable to access assignments from the PearsonMyLab web site: You can still get to your homework assignments and practice tests and quizzes during this time by using the following login site: http://www.mathxl.com/mmllogin.htm MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THIS WEBSITE ADDED TO YOUR “FAVORITES” LIST, AND KNOW HOW TO USE IT TO ACCESS HOMEWORK AND PRACTICE TESTS!

REMINDERS: No personal calculators or other devices (cell phones, iPads, headphones, etc.) or notes can be used on this test. You will be given a clean copy of the Math 110 formula sheet to use during this test. Any attempt to use notes or unauthorized devices or other students’ help will result in a zero score being assigned to your test. If it happens again, you’ll get an F for the course and an academic misconduct citation in your permanent record.

Remember: 50 points of this test will cover material from Units 1 & 2 (Chapters 1-4), so make sure you review your graded Test 1 & 2 worksheets. Test 3 is worth 150 points and covers: --Chapter 5 (Exponents and polynomials) --Chapter 6 (Factoring polynomials) Remember the salary % problem from Test 1? Word problems in two variables from the end of Test 2? Make sure you’re prepared to do ALL problems on both of those tests before you come in to take Test 3.

To study for tomorrow’s test: 1.Take Practice Test 3. It’s required assignment, worth 10 points and due tomorrow class time. You can take it as many times as you want. Each time you take it, you’ll get a different set of questions (not just same ones with different numbers), so taking it at least 2 or 3 times will give you a wider variety of practice problems to try. 2.Review your graded worksheets for Test 1 and Test 2. (Remember, there will be 50 points out of the 150 on Test 3 that will cover material from Units 1 and 2 that was covered on Tests 1 and 2.)

Practice Test Tips: yellow formula sheet Use your yellow formula sheet while you take this! There is no password needed for the practice test. There are 25 questions on the practice test, but only 20 on the real test. The time limit on the practice test is 90 minutes, but the time limit on the real (in-class) test is only 55 minutes. Each time you take the practice test you will get a different set of questions, so taking it at least twice will help you review more of the topics and problems that might appear on the test.

More Practice Test Tips: Practice showing work for the real test by showing work for each practice test problem in your notebook, and practice checking answers before submitting your practice test. Make sure you know the steps for checking answers to long division, factoring and “solve equations” problems”! You DON’T have to finish a practice test all on one session. On the PRACTICE test, you can do part of it, then close it (DON’T submit the unfinished quiz, just close the window and leave the page) and come back later to finish it without losing any time off your clock. When you REVIEW submitted tests, the online help buttons like “help me solve this” will become visible for each question.

Teachers: select concepts and problems to review with your section. Make sure to cover the differences between a “factor” problem and a “solve equations” problem – not just the fact that one has factors for answers and the other has numbers, but also that fractions can only be cleared in an equation. When you finish going over problems, have the class work on their practice tests.

You may now OPEN your LAPTOPS and begin working on Practice Test 3. Remember, the help lab in 203 is open until 7:30 tonight and starting at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow.
