Simple Present She said, “It's cold here.” Present Progressive She said, “I am teaching English now” Past simple She said, “I taught English online yesterday." Present perfect She said, “I have been on the web since 1999.” Simple Past She said (that) it was cold there. Past Progressive She said she was teaching English then. When we report (yes/no) questions, we join using (if or whether) and we change the question to a statement word order Direct Speech Reported Speech Simple Present She asked me, “Are you a student?” Present Progressive She asked him, “Are you teaching English now?” Past simple She asked me, “Did you study English yesterday?" Present perfect She asked me, “Have you ever been to England?” Simple Past She asked me if I was a student. Past Progressive She asked him if he was teaching English then. Past perfect She asked me if I had studied English the day before. Past Perfect She asked me if I had ever been to England.
