2 A Registered Nurse is…  Someone who works in the medical field  Provides patient care  educates patients and the public about many different health conditions  Provides emotional support for the patient and their families

3 Training/Schooling  Diploma in nursing with Associate or Bachelor Degree  Associate degree: 2 years  Bachelor degree: 4 years, study more of human development  diplomas are earned through healthcare facilities and require 3 years with clinical teachings

4 Training/Schooling Cont. ~  RNs (Registered Nurses) by law must be licensed before working (In USA)  All states require you pass the National Council Licensure Examination

8 Is Science Important?  RNs use science daily  A RN must know science in order to be able to do their job correctly and help the patients have a better understanding of what’s going on as well knowing what is going on

9 Science Cont. ~  RNs must know chemistry, physiology, sociology, anatomy, mathematics, psychology, pharmacology, developmental biology, pathophysiology, childhood development,& computer science

10 Science Cont. ~  Need to know formulas in calculating body mass index  Intravenous drip rates and drug dosage calculations  Know disease processes and how they work in order to explain them to the patient and the patient’s family  Need to understand the patient's developmental level; psychological for teaching them about their disease

11 Registered Nursing  Is not just medical care but emotion support as well  Mostly work in hospitals but they are everywhere  It is said that nurses should have high energy levels to complete their work  Must have exceptional people skills and communication
