2 What is REP? REP is designed to give Psychology 100 students direct exposure to the topics, methods, and ethical issues concerning research in the field of Psychology. 3 You get a chance to be involved! REP programs around the country are responsible for the advancement of psychological research…and you get a chance to be involved! Over the course of the quarter we will be discussing studies that have used Psychology 100 students like yourself. 4 What do you need to do? REP accounts for approximately 10% of your final grade. You get the choice of two options: – –1) Research Option – –2) Paper Option Either option will require 7 hours of your time. You can also obtain up to 3 hours for extra credit, for a total of 10 hours, in either option.

5 Please Note: You CANNOT do a combination of the options. You must pick one or the other at the beginning of the quarter!

8 Experiment Option Before registering with the REP website, please look over the Research Option syllabus (a link is located on the website). – –Keep in mind, you will need to schedule multiple experiments over the quarter. Make sure you have the availability before choosing the research option.

9 Experiment Option After registering with the REP website, you will be asked to pick one of the options: Experiment or Paper. –April 4 th –You must select an option before April 4 th ; otherwise, it is assumed you will be completing the Experiment Option.

10 Experiment Option After you are registered and have chosen the Experiment Option, you can begin enrolling in experiments. Review the helpful tutorial first to learn how to enroll in experiments and manage your REP account. Click on the link in the column on the left.

11 What will I be asked to do? Experimenters may ask you to play a game on a computer, watch video clips, or fill out questionnaires. You can get an idea of what will be asked of you by clicking on the experiment code.

12 What is a debit? If you do not show up to a scheduled REP experiment or you are late, you can receive a debit. 13 Canceling Experiments If something comes up, you can cancel an experiment; however, you must do so 24 hours in advance. 16 Experiment Option Researchers usually begin posting experiments by the first full week of classes, and then continue to do so throughout the quarter. 17 Experiment Option Want some easy extra credit? – –People who choose to do experiments have the option of receiving 1 hour of extra credit by filling out a series of online questionnaires. – –Click on the “Prescreening” link located under the “Enroll” tab. – –You must complete all questionnaires for which you are eligible in order to receive the extra credit. – –Prescreening must be completed by Friday, April 4 th. NOTE: You can receive a total of 3 extra credit hours. We highly recommend it!

18 Other Benefits of Prescreening Not only can you receive extra credit, but you also may be invited to participate in experiments that you otherwise could not. A majority of students are not invited, so if you do not complete prescreening or are never contacted by an experimenter, you will still have many opportunities to complete your hours. Please note that you are in no way obligated to complete the prescreening.
