2. hardware The parts of your computer such as the monitor, tower and keyboard

3. screen The glass on the front of your monitor

4. desktop The screen where all your icons are (the blue screen)

5. icon or shortcut A picture on a screen that represents a specific file, directory, window, option or program

6. computer programs They are the software. Examples are games, word processing and Type to Learn 3

7. Internet Computers connected world-wide making web sites and e-mail available. Web sites created by individuals, institutions, and companies are published and can be accessed by anyone with Internet service anywhere in the world. Those web sites are hosted (stored) on servers.

8. click What you do to tell the mouse what you want the computer to do. Single click everything except icons

9. double-click Push your mouse two times quickly on icons. Single click everything else. (Don’t be a clicking Maniac!)

10. window A rectangular area on the screen that displays its own file or message independently of the other areas of the screen.

11. maximize To make the window as large as possible

12. minimize To make the window as small as possible

13. scroll bar The scroll bar is used to show and control ("scroll") which portion of a document is currently visible in a window. A window may have a horizontal or, most often, vertical scroll bar or both.

14. scroll To cause (displayed text or graphics) to move up, down, or across the screen so that a line of text or graphics appears at one edge of the screen for each line that moves off the opposite edge: scroll a document; scroll a page of text.

15. exit or close To terminate the execution of an application (apple Q)

16. task bar the “finder” in the top right corner; it shows what programs are open
