3 Business Types There are many different types of business. Supermarket Manufacturer Farm Restaurant Shop Insurance broker Charity They have different purposes and ownerships. Bank Businesses can operate locally, nationally or globally.

4 Let’s look at two examples of different businesses, The Co-operative Group and Vodafone Group plc. Different Businesses The Co-operative Group Operates nationally Founded by a group of local people in Rochdale in 1844 Profits paid to members Approximately 6 million members Purpose: to supply goods 2010 financial year £13.7bn sales Co-operative Public Limited Company

5 Different Businesses Vodafone Group plc Operates internationally Became an independent company in 1991 PLC with shares sold to the general public Over 56 billion shares issued Purpose: to provide services 2010 financial year £44.5bn revenue Public Limited Company

6 All companies are affected by government decisions and policies at local, national and European levels. External impacts Economic growth Balance of payments Interest rates Taxation Equality Inflation Competitiveness
