They are designed to work in extreme environments, and typically are integral to the operating performance of the system of which they are a part. Bearings can be made from a variety of materials with a high degree of precision. However, bearings are usually manufactured in a high-volume operation. Because of the critical functions bearings perform, 100% product testing is required from OEMs and suppliers. The nature of high-volume production does not easily align itself to off-line testing. As such, bearing suppliers require integrated bearing test systems that can work within the cycle times of high-volume production lines while providing accurate pass-fail assessments. Signalysis™ has developed a system for testing bearings that can be integrated into a production line for real-time product validation. It is also common to install redundant systems in laboratory environments for R&D studies, or for assisting manufacturing with their production test requirements. Integrated systems are designed to meet the specific requirements of the manufacturer. All solutions contain the common elements of a data acquisition system, a variety of transducers, signal conditioning equipment and data analysis software, bundled to meet testing specifications. Typical testing sequences start with utilization of a laser vibrometer to acquire data on the outer race of the bearing. A variety of standard measurements such as Anderon levels, FTF, BPFO, BPFI and BDF are taken and analyzed within Signalysis’ SigQC product, with results compared to tolerance limits. The tolerance limits are formulated based on both OEM requirements and supplier performance specifications. Using pass-fail criteria based on statistical validity, suppliers can easily, quickly and automatically determine whether bearings meet specifications. A variety of common failure modes can be detected, thus allowing for end-of-line sorting to minimize the number of out-of-spec or borderline bearings shipped to customers. By replacing subjective assessments and manual inspection operations with technology-based methodology and automated processes, product quality and productivity is improved. About Signalysis Signalysis, founded in 1987, develops and markets software and integrated solutions based on vibration and acoustics technology. Application focus includes defect detection, automated test control, condition monitoring and response analysis. Our solutions are utilized in production and laboratory environments across a broad range of industries where product quality and performance are closely tied to customer subjectivity. Signalysis draws upon extensive experience in structural dynamics technology to develop solutions that are highly functional, standards-based, easy- to-use, scalable and customizable. Solutions can be deployed across the entire spectrum of the product development process, and are supported by an experienced sales and support staff. Available services include consulting, implementation, technical support and training. Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, Signalysis globally distributes and supports solutions directly, as well as through a network of strategic alliances.
