Inner Triplet Review 24-25 April 2007 Inner Triplet Supports Sonia Bartolomé Jiménez (TS/IC)

Inner Triplet Review 24-25 April 2007 Inner Triplets Supports: overview Motorized jacks: polyurethane type (not able to take axial or radial forces) No specification about forces to be taken by the supports: assumed to be taken by tie-rods 2004: Decision to use the PMPS and central jacks for the Inner Triplets –Planning reasons –Study made by CAT (India) about the performance of the PMPS jacks for use in Inner Triplets : Evaluation of the forces in the interconnections during alignment (13KN axial and 6KN radial)  Install an external stiffener for radial jack and limited modifications 2005: Decision to not install the external stiffener after analysis of measurements in building 181

Inner Triplet Review 24-25 April 2007 Inner Triplets Supports: fixation to the ground –Different beam height (950mm and 1050mm)  150mm extra shims at points 1, 2 and 8 –Rails required for the installation in points 1, 2R, 5, 8R

Inner Triplet Review 24-25 April 2007 Inner Triplets Supports: fixation to the ground –Different tunnel ground conditions: Point 2 (RB24): platform made of concrete blocks and reinforced concrete slabs to continue the tunnel slope Point 1: Two holes of ~400mm diameter to fix the supports to the concrete underneath Point 8 (RB86): reinforced concrete beam

Inner Triplet Review 24-25 April 2007 Inner Triplets Supports: maximum loading Point 1 (critical point): –Pillar design axial load = 40KN / Vertical load = 100KN –Maximum axial load on the anchoring system = 40KN 600mm 280

Inner Triplet Review 24-25 April 2007 Experimental measurement of rigidity of support system at point 1 for 40KN axial load: 0.4mm at bottom position (#01) 0.8m at intermediate position (#02) 1.7mm at high position (#03)

Inner Triplet Review 24-25 April 2007 Inner Triplets Supports: maximum loading Standard PMPS jack stiffness as specified and experimentally verified: Load = 64KN  Deflection (at head jack) = 1mm Interface between cryomagnet and jack: angular contact spherical plain bearing Test with SSS arc cryomagnet (weight = 8T): under 100KN load applied axially on the center of the cryostat, no displacement observed Note: the PMPS jack could work as a free jack
