1. December 3, 2015 Entry Task: What is fraud? What is identity theft? Target: Work in groups to research common types of fraud and present findings to the class.

2. Fraud “a deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain” What does that mean…? Purposely tricking or taking dishonest advantage or a person/group to earn or take something EX: a person promises you will make a lot of money investing with them, then takes your money and runs!

3. Identity Theft “Taking, or stealing, another’s personal information without permission and using it to assume their identity” Identity theft is often used to commit fraud EX: A person’s bank account number and PIN are taken (identity theft) to “break into” bank account and steal money (fraud) People go to great lengths, even changing their physical appearance to match the victim’s!

Statistics Each year 1 in 9 people in the U.S. fall victim of identity theft 47% of these cases, committed by someone the victim knew Receiving bank statements to your home makes you 8x more likely to come victim Electronic hacking increasingly popular; each year 57 million Americans receive scam emails!

Definition/Description What does this even mean?! 2. Statistics on your form of fraud How often does this occur? Specific age group targeted? 3. Prevention How can I protect myself and my money?
