2  Puerto Rico is starting to take on American ways. Puerto Rican culture is mixed in many shapes and forms. Some cultural myth say that if you are a child and a adult sweeps your feet you will not get married. Another is you have your chancla (flip flop) one up and one down someone may die in your family. Most Puerto Ricans are bilingual. 99.8 percent of Puerto Ricans know Spanish. And may also be fluent in Spanish. Natives of Puerto Rico often perform traditional dances such as La Plena. Which is a native Island dance.

3  About half of its 3.3 million people who live in Puerto Rico are less than 22 years of age. About 1/3 of the 1.4 million people who immigrate to the main line have income below the poverty line. In 1940 the most known disease to kill people in the land is called Malaria. People were only expected to live until 46. Now it is 74.

4  Christianly is the most common religion in Puerto Rico. It is customary for children to ask adults for a blessing, when leaving or saying good night. Puerto Ricans believe in Patron Saints. They even have a carnival to celebrate Patron Saints every year.

5  The dominant language in Puerto Rico is Spanish. Everywhere you go you can hear Spanish. Only some people can speak both Spanish and English. Since slaves were brought to Puerto Rico you will see people who look like Africans Americans speaking Spanish.

6  Families in Puerto Rico are usually large in size. Most girls have kids when they are really young. Which results in big families.

9  Is a modern day myth that scares everybody. The Chupacarbra is a mythical creature like the Jersey Devil. This names means sucking the goats blood. There has been many sightings of this mysterious creature. It is known to leave two holes in the chest of chickens and goats.

10  On a normal day the weather will range from 75-80 degrees. On a winter day in the USA a day in Puerto Rico can get up to 80 degrees. Even in the summer it can get even higher.  It is rare that the sun does not shine at least once in the day.  In Puerto Rico there is a thing called The rainy Season. This when it rains non stop. If you lived in a house with a metal roof, you could hear the raindrops.( If you are staying in Puerto Rico during this time don’t worry the rain can put you to sleep in a blink of a eye.)

11  Music is the soul of Puerto Rico!!!  Mostly adults listen to folkloric music. Now a days teens and kids listen to Latin and salsa and pop music from artists like Prince Royce, Daddy Yankee and much more. But decades ago they only listened to salsa! No not that one!

13  Goya is one of the most well known Spanish companies. Fun Fact: About 85 percent of Puerto Ricans drank Malta at least once.  Malta, Pina Colada, Coco Rico, Cola Champagne, Goya Juice.

14  There are many different dishes that are unique in may ways.  Bacalao, Pasteles, Rice and Beans. Pork chops, Chicken, Roast Pig.

15  Here are some snacks that most Puerto Ricans eat.  Mostly fruit from there tree like tamarind, mangoes, coconuts, oranges, papyes, queneeas. These all used to grow on trees in your back yard. So the boys used to climb the trees to get the fruit down.

16  Here are some desserts that we adore!  Flan, Tembleque, Florecitas, Cien En Boca, Maria Cookies, and Pilones.
