6 Hold the tool correctly.
Using a Chisel Hold the tool correctly. If you are right-handed, use your right hand to push the handle while the left hand guides the blade (when not using a mallet).

7 Hold the tool correctly.
Using a Chisel Hold the tool correctly. When using a mallet, the left hand should hold the handle, while the right hand taps the tool. If you are left-handed, do just the opposite.

8 Using a Chisel Protect the handle by using a wood or plastic mallet or a soft-faced hammer. Never use a metal hammer.

9 Always hit the tool squarely on top of the handle.

10 Using a Chisel Never allow the edge to touch other tools.
Avoid dropping the chisel on the floor or any other hard surface.
