2 Teachers spend a lot of time in a confined space with children and they need opportunities to make personal adult connections and interact with colleagues. Even though our days are hectic, it is crucial to find time to build relationships and make friends with new teachers within our schools or buildings Even though our days are hectic, it is crucial to find time to build relationships and make friends with new teachers within our schools or buildings As mentors we understand how important this is and will take the necessary steps to help our new teachers make connections with a variety of staff members As mentors we understand how important this is and will take the necessary steps to help our new teachers make connections with a variety of staff members

3 As mentors, we will… Be more than just co-workers, but friends with our mentees by creating a bond and build a trusting relationship that does not revolve solely around school Be more than just co-workers, but friends with our mentees by creating a bond and build a trusting relationship that does not revolve solely around school Create opportunities to meet and build relationships with co-teachers both socially (happy hours, showers, sports events, parties) and professionally (join committees, planning meetings, KidTalks, IIT) Create opportunities to meet and build relationships with co-teachers both socially (happy hours, showers, sports events, parties) and professionally (join committees, planning meetings, KidTalks, IIT) Introduce new teachers to others in the same age group or those that share similar interests or hobbies Introduce new teachers to others in the same age group or those that share similar interests or hobbies Include new teachers in activities outside of school to allow them to see staff members in a different light and experience a stronger sense of community when a staff becomes more than just co-workers Include new teachers in activities outside of school to allow them to see staff members in a different light and experience a stronger sense of community when a staff becomes more than just co-workers

5 Adult learners value choice, freedom and power, so we as mentors should offer options for their learning. New teachers should have options to chose from when it comes to the format of learning New teachers should have options to chose from when it comes to the format of learning Engage in ongoing discussions about the options for learning, the effectiveness of learning and the next steps in the learning process Engage in ongoing discussions about the options for learning, the effectiveness of learning and the next steps in the learning process
