4 Procedure To illustrate the “Empty Calorie” concept, I will make our own homemade soda  10 ounces of carbonated water  Tablespoon of High Fructose corn syrup  Caramel color, caffeine, and Phosphoric acid will be left out  40 grams of sugar = 20 cubes  Stir  There are about 10 teaspoons of sugar in a 12-ounce can of most sodas!
