Feature Articles

A feature article is: A special style of writing that gives readers true information about an interesting topic. A writing piece that involves research and real facts about the topic. A topic that the writer knows a lot about and is considered an expert. Found in newspapers and magazines.

A feature article is NOT: A made up story with fantasy or fake events. A writing piece that doesn’t have any real facts or research. A topic that the writer doesn’t know anything about, so they just make up facts as they go. A story found in a book that’s really long!

EXAMPLES: This article is about Ernie, the Rethink Rubbish Elephant. He is the mascot for the Lancashire County recycling program. The facts in this article explain why people should recycle and how Ernie can help children remember to recycle at home and school. The catchy title matches the article and the picture is very interesting. The caption tells us who is in the picture.

EXAMPLES: This article is about an artist who is showing his artwork to the community in Canada. The facts in this article tell readers where and when they can see his work, a little bit about his life, and information about his paintings. The picture shows the artist working, and the caption below it tells about the picture.
