4 California Community Colleges Associate of Arts Degree (AA) Associate of Science Degree (AS) Certificate Programs Over 100 CCC’s in California

5 Admission Requirements…CCC Open admissions - anyone interested in attending is accepted Must apply on-line and take the assessment – COMPASS (for Delta) is given here at LHS! Good place to start if student is not focused... WATCH DEADLINES! Classes fill up FAST!

6 California State Universities 23 Campuses across the state Most are IMPACTED – especially in Nursing 6/23 are Impacted in all majors! (Fresno, Fullerton, Long Beach, San Diego, San Jose, Cal Poly) 4 year Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science Dozens of different majors to choose Reasonably priced…

7 Admission Requirements…CSU 4 years English, 3 years math (Alg. I,II and Geometry), 2 years same language other than English, 2 years science with lab, 1 year visual/perf. art (VPA) SAT or ACT November 30th Deadline! No D semester grades!

8 All students MUST pass the ELM/EPT or they will have to take a remediation class over the summer! Or score high enough on ACT/SAT www.csusuccess.orgwww.csusuccess.org to study for the test! You took this test last year – check your scores or come see me for more details… Early Assessment! for CSU’s

10 Admission Requirements…UC 4 years English, 3 years math (prefer 4 years), 2 years language other than English (prefer 3 years), 2 years science with lab (prefer 3), 1 year VPA, 2 years Social Sci. Minimum GPA must be at least 3.0 to apply (10 th - 12 th grades only) SAT and/or ACT ( SAT Subject Test for Engineering Majors) NO D Grades! November 30th Deadline!

11 Independent or Private Colleges Over 76 private colleges and universities in California – with over 200 locations! Wonderful programs - some of the best kept secrets in higher education BA,BS, MA,MD, JD, PhD programs Not always as costly as you may think...

12 Admission to Private Colleges… Varies greatly between the colleges Many highly competitive schools Several very “forgiving” schools Incredible financial aid programs Different deadlines Many require the Common Application

13 College Entrance Exams... SAT…Total possible points = 2400 Tests English and Math knowledge May take as many times as needed... Must take before December of this year!! ACT…Total possible points = 36 Tests 3 areas - English, Math, Science/Social Science MUST take this test by November if you want Cal Poly! Must take before December of this year!

14 Trade or Technical Schools Programs designed to give students post- secondary training and skills Good programs - generally high ticket prices to attend Be sure to check program prior to committing any money Designed for students who are not in college prep. programs in high school

15 San Joaquin Area Apprenticeships Amazing training programs for hands-on learning AND earning! On-the-job training for students over 18 who have graduated from High School Many apprenticeships combine college credits toward a degree Most positions start at $15.00 per hour More information - www. sjapprenticeship.org

17 Financial Aid What is Financial Aid? Must students be “poor” to receive aid? Where does the money come from? First steps...Social Security Number on file with Linden HS!

18 Grants... FREE MONEY! FAFSA - March 2nd Deadline! – Pell Grant (Federal Program) – Cal Grant (California State Residents Only)

19 Loans Student Loans Parent Loans Look carefully into the different programs! Good way for student to establish credit Keep options open!
