“Waiting for the King” Habakkuk 2

1.WAIT EXPECTANTLY (vs. 1-3a, 5-17)

5 WOES FOR BABYLON Woe #1 The plundering Babylonians have become the plundered (6b-8)

He who is pregnant with evil and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment. He who digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit he has made. The trouble he causes recoils on himself; his violence comes down on his own head. Psalm 7:14-16

5 WOES FOR BABYLON Woe #1 The plundering Babylonians have become the plundered (6b-8) Woe #2 The Babylonians have wasted their lives (9-11) Woe #3 The Babylonians have forfeited the glory of Yahweh (12-14) Woe #4 The Babylonians have been disgraced (15-17) Woe #5 The Babylonians have been guilty of idolatry (18-20)

2. WAIT PATIENTLY (vs. 3b)

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:8-9

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Romans 8:18-25

3. WAIT FAITHFULLY (vs. 4) FAITH ( emuwnah ) firmness; security; moral fidelity

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." Hebrews 10:35-38

Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. Isaiah 11:5-9

4. WAIT WORSHIPFULLY (vs. 18-20)
