FNAL Beam test results A. Zhang, V. Bhopatkar, M. Phipps, J. Twigger, M. Hohlmann HEP Group A, Florida Tech 2013/11/18

Results to be shown Beam profiles of 2D trackers Noises and Offsets CMS zigzag and 10cm zigzag detectors Charge distributions; Position scan (uniformity); HV scan (‘gain’) Delta_y distribution of 10cm zz. 2

Beam Profiles _ Hit Map 20GeV: X_6cm, Y_3cm 3

Beam Profiles _ Hit Map 32GeV: X_6cm, Y_3cm 4

20GeV: X_6cm, Y_3cm 5 Beam Profiles _ Cluster Charge Map

32GeV: X_6cm, Y_2cm 6 6

CMS ZZ APV Noises less than 10 ADC channels, Offsets around 1400-1500 ADC channels. Noises Offsets 7

Two 10cm zigzag detectors’ APV noises and offsets. Each detector uses 30 channels of a APV. 30 8

Cluster charge distribution of CMSZZ eta5 Strips occupancy Consistent with beam profiles from 2D trackers Most of the signals’ max. happen in the 3 rd of the 9 time windows. Peak charge distribution 9

2 points / 7 sectors of CMS zz detector were tested (HV 3200V). Maximum charge difference percentage is about 50%, ie., the uniformity is about 25%. Charge of the signal is around 10fC. (gain of APV is 232e/ADC) 10

CMSZZ: 3/1/2/1 10cm ZZ: 3/2/2/2 HV scan of CMSZZ and 10cm ZZ detectors. Charge is between 3 and 90 fC. Charge in 10cm detector is a little higher than in CMS, because of larger gas gap. 11

Delta_Y distribution from 10cm Zigzag 30 channels @10deg, HV 4050V With cut conditions by cluster charge and cluster size 12

Delta_Y distribution from 10cm Zigzag 30 channels @20deg,HV 4050V With cut conditions by cluster charge and cluster size 13

Summary We are getting positive results, eg., beam profiles, cluster charge spectra, charge vs HV, position uniformity etc., and more plots will come out. Still need to improve delta_y plots, so to get more precise resolution of zigzag detectors. And to compare results of different angles for 10cm zigzag detectors. We will start full data analysis process soon, so that we will get a first chance to look at all results together. Tracking function of the detector systems needs to be implemented, which is the most important step for analyzing on the road. 17
