2 Aim for today’s lesson How did early humans during the Paleolithic Age finds ways to survive? What are two important innovations of the Paleolithic peoples?

5 Other types of Humans Homo habilis Homo erectus Homo sapiens Classroom Activity! Create a three column chart. Left column write the type of hominids. Middle column write the time period. Right column put the characteristics of the hominid. (found on pg 7 of text)

6 The Paleolithic Age Homo Sapiens Sapiens – “wise wise human” Paleolithic is Greek for “Old Stone” Period of human history when they began using simple stone tools.

7 Hunting and Gathering If these people were hunters, could they stay in one place for very long??

8 Nomads What is a “Nomad?” Who else do you know were “nomadic”?

9 Surviving Shelter – What types of shelter? Caves Wood structures covered with animal hides What else was essential to survival?

10 Aim for today’s lesson How did early humans during the Paleolithic Age finds ways to survive? What are two important innovations of the Paleolithic peoples? Learned to hunt and gather food (Nomadic) Use of tools to help in hunting and making shelter (animal hides, bone needles, spears) Use of fire – helped in cooking, gave off heat, and keeping predators away.

13 The Neolithic Revolution “Neolithic” means _____ Stone Age. We learned how early humans were hunters and gatherers. (Nomads) How did humans of the Neolithic age acquire food??

14 Systematic Agriculture Systematic agriculture was the shift from hunting and gathering to growing food on a regular basis and “keeping” of animals. “Domestication” of animals

15 SO WHAT LT!!!! Okay great, so why is “systematic agriculture” so important? Well lets discuss… Growing crops led to a more plentiful supply of food for humans…(so..?) Did they have to be as “nomadic”?? They could begin to SETTLE in ONE AREA
