There was only a short interval between the naming of the Dodo Bird and its disappearance-but an awful lot of confusion was generated during those 75 years. Shortly after its discovery, a Dutch captain referred to the Dodo as the "Walghvogel" (Wallowbird), and some Portuguese sailors called it a penguin (which may have been a mangling of "pinion," meaning "small wing.")

5 Where does the dodo bird live?
Dodo Birds, while now extinct, were found only on the small island of Mauritius,500 miles east of Madagascar, and 1200 miles east of Africa. On the island it had no predators.
