1 The Texas Revolution

2 Causes of the Texas Revolution Anglo-Americans who moved to Texas were upset that they were told to be Catholic, official documents were in Spanish, after 1830 immigration was banned and so was Slavery.

3 President Santa Anna Became Dictator of Mexico and ruled without any regard to laws or peoples rights. He sent troops and tax collectors to Texas. This started the Texas revolt.

4 Davy Crockett A United States Senator and Frontiersman, he went with a group of Tennessee men to the Alamo where he was killed defending it.

5 The Battle of the Alamo A group of 183 Texans under William B. Travis and Jim Bowie defended the Alamo (an old church made into a fort) against 6,000 Mexican troops under General Santa Anna. The siege lasted 13 days, then the Mexicans rushed in and killed all the defenders.

6 Battle of San Jacinto A Texas army under Sam Huston attacked Santa Anna’s army, screaming remember the Alamo and captured him. Forcing him to sign a treaty giving Texas its independence.

7 Lone Star State Texas became a country, most Texans wanted to be Annexed by the United States. The fear was that Mexico would take them over. There were large tracks of land in dispute with Mexico.
