3  Need of Information Architecture  Start Constructing a building without deciding its design and architecture  Problems to:  Constructor  User  Purpose for which building was constructer BACK

4  Website are the resource of information. Each website servers its purpose uniquely.  Effect of constructed a website without any planning and architecture.  Developer may have problem in organizing the information and maintenance.  User have problem in using the website and accessing the information.  Time Consuming in search.  Difficulty in browsing due to improper keywords

5  The Combination of organizing, labeling and navigation schemes within an information system.  The art and science(experience, intuition and creativity, willing) of structuring and classifying websites and internet to help people find and manage information

6  Data is Fact and Figure  Information is meaningful data.  Managed information is Knowledge.  Managed knowledge is the intelligence.

7 It is three step process 1.Labeling Systems –How do we categorize information? 2.Navigation Systems-How do we browse information? 3. Searching System-How do we search information? BACK

8 Advantages  1.User get quick Response.  2.User can search easily.  3.Maintainance is easy for producer. Disadvantages  Process is time consuming.

9 A person who create the structure and map to information which allow other to find their personal path to knowledge

10  Clarifies the mission and vision for the site balancing the needs of sponsoring organization and needs of audience.  Determine what content and functionality the site will contain.  Specified how users will find the information in the site by defining its organization, navigation labeling and searching system.  Maps out how the site accommodate growth and change over time

11 An insider who can understand the site sponsoring organization,its main goals, audiences and inner workings. Advantages:  Organization’s information is in safe hands.  No Extra cost, so cost effective.  Insider knows most about the organization’s processes and how to get things done within that organization.

12  Knowledge of an insider may be too specific.  Insider may lack the political base required to mobilize cooperation from others in the organization.  Insider gets diverted from his original duties.

13  No biased behavior is expected from an outsider.  We will choose according to our needs as a specialist.

14  Extra Cost  Outsider does not have minute detail of the organization so he needs information.  Passing secret information of the organization to an outsider can be dangerous.
