2 Definition of Facilities Management “Facilities Management is the integration of multi-disciplinary activities within the built environment and the management of their impact upon people and the workplace.”

3 Research, Information & Knowledge Committee {RIKCo} Our Aims To promote and communicate Research, Information and Knowledge that is relevant to the interests of BIFM Members.

4 Research, Information & Knowledge Committee {RIKCo} Our Aims To raise the profile of the Institute with other Professional Bodies and achieve recognition and influence as the ‘gatekeeper’ of FM Research, Information & Knowledge.

5 Our aim is to give our Members as much support as possible, Always remembering FMs’ are on the ‘front-line’.

13 Our Agenda

14 Agenda Identify opportunities for extending the influence of BIFM through research activity. Achieve national recognition as the principal source for authoritative information on matters of FM research / knowledge.

15 Agenda Identify gaps in research knowledge and support / commission original research. Influence funders of research by championing individual research proposals

16 Agenda Develop a programme of targeted research to support current and future needs. Establish and maintain a knowledge network and database – survey of members’ areas of activity, interests, skills, sector etc.

17 Agenda Co-ordinate and Quality Assure Special Interest Groups’ and Sector Forums’ contributions to the knowledge base. Support them by undertaking / commissioning original research in their areas of interest.

19 Sector Forums Aims & objectives To improve the opportunities for members to network and exchange knowledge on an Employment Sector basis. Establish Forums initially for education; health; local authorities; armed services; hospitality and retail.

22 To support these initiatives we are looking to:- Engage Corporates and Regions to participate and Build a resource at ‘Head Office’ to support the work of RIKCo.

24 Support the development of regional networks {‘hubs’} to share information, knowledge and benchmark performance Offer briefings on research in progress Maintain a register of research projects Publicise the outputs of original research and its application to members Support SIGs and Sector Forums on a regional basis Share information on the work of RIKCo by Email and the web

26 Develop networks to share information, knowledge and benchmark performance Demonstrate ‘leading edge’ performance Learn from others Develop partnerships across the public and private sectors, with Government and other agencies Develop Strategic Alliances with selected ‘key’ players

27 We must ensure that we can maintain the enthusiasm, momentum and commitment of our volunteers
