2 School Colours Revised during session 12/13 – Improvement Group with Students, staff and parents consultation In light of the review appropriate changes were made to support the current system

3 Colours at Marr Emphasis on achievement rather than participation S1 & S2 badge awarded End of S3 Tie awarded End of S4 Half Colours End of S5 Full colours

4 Accreditation of Wider Achievement Saltire Awards Session 13/14 where are we? Hours in the following activities count: Captains House Captains Prefects Student Council Peer Education Youth Achievement Eco Schools – Dynamic youth can also be accredited

5 Saltire Awards 2014-15 Target S3, S5 and S6 Highlighted initially through Duke of Edinburgh, however further opportunities through a range of activities is available Links to other new awards e.g. John Muir Awards Accreditation can accumulate between a range of activities

6 Saltire Challenge planned for session 14/15 This can be awarded for whole school events Examples include: Children in Need, litter picks at the beach, Sport Relief, UNICEF day etc Plans in place to award these retrospectively for students this session These challenges can then be organised in advance for next session, and encourage a range of students to take part This can accumulate into other Saltire Awards

7 Duke of Edinburgh S6, DofE young leader award, available as an option choice. Will run next session, with approximately 12 students DofE Leaders will be responsible for one S3 group. They will lead, guide, inspire and encourage other young people, agree their programme choices and approve their progress

8 Voluntary Action South Ayrshire Group involvement Volunteering opportunities for 16+ Links to Peer Education, Duke of Edinburgh and Saltire which increases hours and is personally rewarding The group will highlight volunteering vacancies in South Ayrshire via category and location Volunteer work can be individual, group or in school work

9 Dynamic Youth Taking responsibility Participation in youth work Building self esteem, confidence and skills in our junior phase (S3 next session) 5 hour challenge, targets set, peer assessment Self assessment, recognising personal achievement Leads into YAA (age 14+) Links with Eco Schools

10 Youth Achievement Awards Available for selected students aged 14 and over Four levels – bronze, silver, gold and platinum Different levels according to whether its simply taking part, or organising, or leading the activities Time spent on Dynamic Youth Awards can be used to gain up to 50% of a Bronze Youth Achievement Award

11 Higher Leadership Award Potentially for session 14/15 SWOT analysis Three tasks researching leadership analysing the qualities and skills involved then evaluating personal leadership skills Students produce a report/folio (variety of formats) Work totals 20 – 40 hours Self/peer assessment Work is assessed internally Rigorous quality assurance throughout the process

12 John Muir Award Potentially for session 14/15 4, 8 or 20 day awards Trial 4 day awards next session (the Discovery award) before moving onto 8 hours (the Explorer award), perhaps later in the year or for the next again session Taking responsibility for wild places/nature, moving onto helping with conservation Partnership and community working A local or even national focus

13 Celebrating Success at Marr Parent involvement Via newspapers/on website Certification e.g. Behaviour for Learning Merits, national awards etc Newsletters, both in school (to staff) and to parents Assemblies, personal contact, postcards, letters, plasma screens, planner entries, telephone calls etc Noticeboard – restarted this session, and will be updated frequently Planned Focus groups with pupils to ascertain how they would like their successes to be acknowledged
