4 The museum is located on the bank of the Kwai River near the famous River Kwai Bridge. It was founded by Mr. Aran Chansiri, a jewelry businessman. The museum is a cluster of buildings displaying anecdotes and stories related to World War II such as war instruments, photographs, uniforms, etc. the construction of the bridge, jewelry and personal interests.

7 Inside the building is also an Art Gallery on 2nd and 3rd floor. The paintings on the second floor relate ancient battles between the Thais and Burmese, while third-floor murals tell Thai history and provide portraits of prime ministers and other important political figures. This private museum also features Khmer-style woodcarvings, a pair of elaborate Burmese Buddhas, and excellent paintings of Chinese deities.

9 1. History of Thailand. It is about the wars between Thailand and Burma in the form of mural paintings. There are also other personal collections, such as pottery, herb pounders, guns, swords and coconut graters.

11 2. The construction of the River Kwai Bridge and the Thai-Burmese Railway. The exhibition displays a model of a shelter of prisoners of war, pictures and paintings showing life of prisoners in the camp, photographs and a model of the bombing of the bridge, utensils of prisoners and Japanese soldiers, and vehicles of the Japanese.

13 3. Personal collection such as stamps, watches, coins banknotes, musical instruments and stuffed animals.

16 5. Thai costumes. The section displays women’s costumes together with paintings of Miss Thailand from the past until the present.

18 6. Vehicles of Japanese soldiers such as cars, motorcycles and horse- drawn carriages.

19 7. Cave of pre-historic man. The display shows paintings and models of human evolution from cavemen to modern man.
