2 1990 ! Nelson Mandela Was Born July, 18, 1918 In Transkei, South Africa. In 1990, He Was Freed From Prison In South Africa After 27 Years. For 20 Years; He Directed A Campaign Of Peaceful, Non-violent Defiance Against The South African Government And It’s Racist Policies. In 1994 He Was Inaugurated As The Country’s First Black President.

3 Continuing 1990 … He Was Sent To Jail In 1962 For Leaving South Africa Illegally. In Jail He Was Convicted For Sabotage And Sentenced To A Life In Prison. He Moved To Polls moor Prison In Cape Town In 1994, And He Was Then Moved To The Victor Verster Prison Near Paarl In 1988. Nelson Mandela Received More Than 695 Awards.

4 1991 ! Bush Wins Congressional Approval For His Position With The Most Devastating Air Assault In History Against Military Targets In Iraq And Kuwait. The Persian Gulf War Started In 1991 With An Extensive Aerial Bombing Campaign. Coalition Flew Over 100,000 Aircrafts, Dropping 88,500 Tons Of Bombs, And Widely Destroying Military And Civilian Infrastructure. There Was A Total Of 147 U.S. Battle Deaths During The Gulf War And 145 Non-battle Deaths And 467 Wounded In Action.

5 Continuing 1991 … The Assault Lasted 38 Days. Coalition Forces Were Virtually Unopposed And They Defeated Iraq Ground Troops Within 100 Hours. Hostilities Ended With A Temporary Cease-fire On February 27. The Persian Gulf War Makes The First In History That Air Power Played The Most Important Role In Deciding The Outcome Of A War.

6 1992 ! In 1992, While At Dinner In Japan President H.w. Bush Vomited On The Japanese Prime Minister; Kiichi Miyazawa. Bush Was 67 At The Time When This Happened. The President’s Host, Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa, Cradled Bush’s Head For Some Minutes Until Bush Was Strong Enough To Get Up On His Own. Bush’s Spokesmen, Martin Fitzwater Said On Wednesday Night, After The Attack, That Bush Had The Kind Of Gastroenteritis Commonly Known As The Flu, But To Them He Was Feeling Fine.

7 Continuing 1992 … His Physician Gave Him A Full Body Exam, But Found Nothing Wrong With Bush. One Person Who Attended The Dinner And Saw The Incident At Close Range Said Bush “Turned White As A Sheet, “Rolled His Head To The Left, And Was Clearly Fainting Before Being Helped To The Floor. Bush Said He First Became Sick In A Receiving Line At Mr. Miyazawa’s Residence Before The Dinner. HE Recovered The Next Day, Embarrassed But Otherwise Fine.

8 1993 ! In 1993, Bombay was hit by devastating bombs. At least 200 have died, and 800 were injured after 13 bombs exploded. The explosives went off within 75 minutes of each other across several districts of India's financial capitol. The blast occurred in the basement garage.

9 Continuing 1993 … It Blew More Than 30 Cars And It Shattered Windows. Most Of The Bombs Were In Vehicles But Several Were In Unoccupied Hotel Rooms. Furniture And Bodies Had Been Flung Into The Road. England’s Hockey Team, In Bombay For An International Tournament, Escaped Serious Injuries When One Bomb Went Off At The Searock Sheraton Hotel, Where They Were Staying.

10 1994 ! The Channel Tunnel Opened May 6 th 1994 Between England And France. The Channel Tunnel Is A Railway Tunnel That Lies Underneath The Water Of The English Channel And Connects The Island Of Great Britain With Mainland France. Its Also Known As “The Euro Tunnel”. The Channel Was To Be Made Up Of Two, Parallel Railway Tunnels That Would Be Dug Under The English Channel.

11 Continuing 1994 … The Channel IS 50.5 Km (3.14 miles) Long. The Euro star Crossing Time Is 20 Minutes. A Block Diagram To Describe The Organization Structure Was Used To Build The Channel Tunnel. The Tunnel Took Eight Years To Build And Millions Of Dollars To Complete.

12 1995 ! About 12 People Died In Cult Nerve Gas Attack In The Japanese Subway In 1995. Five Two-men Terrorists Teams From Aum Shinrikyo Religious Cult, Riding On Separate Subway Trains, Converge At The Kasumigaseki Station And Secretly Released Lethal Sarin Gas Into The Air. causing the death of Twelve people, and 5,500 treated in hospitals. Most Of The Survivors Recovered, But Some Victims Suffered Permanent Damage To Their Eyes, Lungs And Digestive System. Two Subway Workers Died At Kasumigaseki Station In Central Tokyo.

13 Continuing 1995 … Victims Of The Gas Attack Have Submitted A Petition To The Government Asking It To Monitor The Health And Mental Condition Of Those Stricken In The Incident And To Keep An Close Eye On The Aum Shinrikyo Cult. Victims Also Pressed Demands To Get Paid More. Japanese Police Raided Aum Shinrikyo Headquarters And Arrested Hundreds Of Members, Including The cults Blind Leader, Shoko Asahara. New Fears Have Surfaced About A Resurgence Of The Doomsday Cult Which Was Responsible For The Attack.

14 1996 ! Tupac Shakur Died In 1996. He Was Killed At Age 25. He Was Born June 16, 1971. His Whole Name Is Tupac Amaru Shakur.

15 Continuing 1996 … Tupac was killed in a drive-by shooting in las Vegas. He was introduced to issues of race and politics early in life.. Most of tupac’s songs are about growing u amid violence and hardship in ghetto’s, racism, other social problems and conflicts with other rappers. Tupac was sentenced to four and a half years in prison in the sexual assault case.

16 1997 ! In 1997, Princess Diana Of Wales Died In A Car Crash In Paris. The Accident Happened After The Princess Left The Ritz Hotel In The French Capital With Her Companion, Dodi Al Fayed. She Was Taken To A Hospital In The Early Ours Of A Sunday Morning Where Surgeons Tried For Two Hours To Save Her Life. Dodi Al Fayed And The Vehicles Driver Were Also Killed In The Collision In A Tunnel Under The Place De l’Alma In The Centre Of The City.

17 Continuing 1997 … The Princess’ Mercedes Car Was Apparently Being Pursued At High Speed By Photographers On Motorbikes When It Hit A Pillar And Smashed Into A Wall. Mr. Al Fayed And Chauffeur Died At The Scene But The princess And Her Body Guard Were Cut From The Wreckage And Rushed To The Hospital. The Bodyguard Survived Despite Critical Injuries. Then Blame: At First, The Entire Blame Seemed Directed At The Paparazzi, Photographers Who Were Following The Princess’ Car, And From Whom The Driver Was Trying To Escape.

Powerful Thunderstorms Spawned At Least One Tornado That Cut A Deadly, Destructive Path With Little Warning Across Central Florida In The Early Morning, Killing At Least 19 People, Smashing Dozens Of Homes And Businesses And Suddenly Awakening Thousands Of Terrified Survivors With A Roar. The Storm Smashed Single-family Homes, Ripped Away Roofs, Threw Mobile Homes Off Their Foundations And Picked A Semi-truck And Slammed It Down On Top Of Another. In One Case, A Tractor-trailer Was Lifted Up And Landed On Another Semi, Pinning The Driver In His Cab. Few People Listened To The Radio Or Watched Their Television, And Few Communities In The Region Had Warning Sirens.

19 Continuing 1998 … Rescuers With Dogs In Tow Descended On Ravaged Areas, Lifting Debris And Digging Away Dirt, Wood And Metal To Search For People. Bernadette Fields, Said Two Of Her Neighbors Living In Mobile Homes Got Blown Out Of Their Homes And Into Lake Mack. Their Bodies Were Found By Their Own Dog. Patrick Smith, Who Lives In The Lake Mack Area Near Paisley, Said He Pulled The Bodies Of A Man And His, About 9 Or 10 Year Old Son From A Neighboring House After The Storm Hit. Searchers Moved Through The Four-Country Region, Using Spray Paint To Mark What They Found In Husks Of Buildings While Residents Who Had Startled Out Of Bed Came Back To Look For friends Of Loved Ones And Salvage Anything That’s Wasn’t Blown Apart.

20 1999 ! An F2 Tornado Touched Down In The Metropolitan Area Of Salt Lake City. The Tornado Lasted Ten Minutes And Killed One Person, Injured More Than 80 People, And Caused More Than $170 Million In Damages. The Collapse Of A Large Tent Facility Killed One Man: Allen Crandy. Power lines Snapped, Leaving The Church’s Family History Library And Museum Of Church History And Art Without Power For More Than 24 Hours.

21 Continuing 1999 … The Wind Threw Some Cars Into Tree Tops. Church Members Worked Together TO Repair The Tents That Were Demolished. Church Members Offered Service In The Neighborhoods. This Storm, Classified As A F2 On A Scale Of O-5, Was The Worst Tornado In Utah History.
